Wild or Mild: How To Wear Animal Print Shoes

A few weeks ago Rosana, owner of DC Style Factory, posted a pair of animal print flats that were adorable. I immediately texted her to ask where there would from and who they were by.

As I was cyber stalking them, my inner voice gave me a wake-up: “what am I doing? Why am I a contemplating buying shoes from someone else? We have so many great animal print shoes in the store right now.” I have these weak moments, you see, and then sensibility strikes. I rushed back to our own website to settle my animal print jones-ing. As I was flipping through the photos, I thought: “we have to do a Stylebook post on how to wear all these great shoes.”

Not only do we have great animal print (zebra, leopard, and cheetah, of course) but we have great faux snake and alligator prints, as well. If you aren’t sure you can handle an entire shoe with a print or pattern, we have some sneakers that have just a subtle of detail. I mean, of course, we also have some sneakers that are all snake for those who aren’t faint of heart.

When we decided to shoot all these amazing shoes we had to make sure we have a model as fierce as the prints. Meredith, the owner of barre3, was the first person to come to mind. To me, animal prints are pretty but yes, they do have that edge to them. So, while yes, Meredith is sweet, if you take one of her classes you know she will kick your butt. She’s similar to a leopard: beautiful, yes, but also capable of inflicting pain. So come get your edge on with our great animal print shoes!

I spent the first part of my career as a copy-writer who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive. At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.

Heard the buzz? The Shoe Hive & The Hive are a pair of luxury boutiques in Old Town Alexandria. Featuring both big name designers like Rag & Bone and Stuart Weitzman and smaller brands like AGL and L'Agence, our unique selection and impeccable service are what set us apart.
