It is hard to believe we are already half way through September. When kids are back in school, we start thinking about planning for the holidays and thinking of gift ideas, so when we wrote about our last show in New York, we weren’t surprised when many of you inquired about the city art featured in that post. They are great looking and a unique gift idea for that favorite person on your list, so we thought we’d tell you a little more about the art and artist.
These beautiful, handmade illustrated maps of our favorite cities highlight the local neighborhoods that we call home. The creator, Jackie Robinson, is from Charleston, South Carolina and is inspired by nature, her travels, and bold color combinations. Her minimal and edgy style is achieved through a combination of hand-painted patterns, typography, and letterpress techniques. Her clean, minimal designs align with her mantra “simple is more,” something to which we at Coco Blanca try to adhere ourselves.
Each map is designed with a keen eye for detail and pulled by hand on a vintage cylinder press using archival full-color, soy-based ink and copper foil on 100-pound, bright white recycled paper to ensure crisp details. And, one of my favorite features, they are all made in the USA.
These 16×20 inch maps retail for $75. We have Washington D.C., Charleston, New York, Paris, and London in the store, but many other beautiful city maps are also available.
Using the soothing color palette of a coconut by the sea—whites, neutrals and splashes of turquoise—Coco Blanca has created a trademark look. Her lifestyle boutique offers expert solutions for home design and women’s fashion—blending a clean, fresh, sophisticated, feel-good style.
