Faithfull the Brand Embodies Classic Beauty In Its Silhouettes
“Less, but better” has become my mantra. I am just old enough that I vividly remember when I had to physically set foot in a store if I wanted to buy something. The closest thing to online shopping was the department store catalog where I’d circle “wish items,” folding down the corners of the pages to reference later. There were various reasons we bought less, but I think the biggest was because packages didn’t magically appear at your door two days post-checkout. Shopping thoughtfully these days can feel incredibly daunting, sometimes impossible. There is always a new trend, always more…stuff.
While waxing poetic about the retail industry of days gone by, I must confess I spend a great deal of time scrolling online. And with each scroll, I’m hoping to find another clothing or shoe brand with a B Corp certification. Not searching for the same? Let me elaborate. Certified B corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance both profit and purpose. Read: businesses must exhibit great employment practices, profitable performance and an ethical environmental impact. Sounds like “less, but better,” right?
Founded in 2014 in Bali, Faithfull the Brand perfectly blends the Australian and Norwegian sensibilities of its founders: Sarah-Jane Abrams and Helle Them-Enger. They wanted to create timeless styles and manufacture them locally. Faithfull the Brand has been a favorite of mine for a long time and I was thrilled when we were able to pick it up for The Hive. The silhouettes are classically beautiful, not fussy – but still interesting. They are made incredibly well with great attention to detail, both in design and manufacturing. These are the types of things that I look for in terms of buying less, but better.
An item with classic lines that is made impeccably will last so much longer in my wardrobe than a trendy piece not made quite as well. My clothing also needs to serve me well, and be worn through a few different seasons. For me, this translates to light layers that can carry me from summer into fall. Another thing I consider, as I’m sure we all do – is how a certain item will make me feel when I wear it. I don’t know what magical fashion pixie dust is floating around the design studio at Faithfull, but I do know that when I wear their dresses, I feel like I’ve just stepped out of a sepia photograph taken on a quiet street in the south of France. That sounds extremely specific, right? Vintage-inspired prints will do that to you. Is it too bold to say that Faithfull the Brand comes with a complimentary breeze in your hair?
