Why Having More Space Isn’t Always a Good Thing

We often think having more space is a good thing. But, it can also be a trap depending on whether or not you’re organized. If you’re not, it simply gives you more license to acquire clutter. If walking around your home stirs anxiety rather than a feeling of calm, you likely have too much stuff!

Signs You Own Too Much:

  • Your home environment causes you stress.

  • You struggle to find daily items.

  • Your stuff is not contained — it’s spilling out of every cabinet, closet and shelf.

  • It’s difficult to clean your home due to all the clutter.

  • Areas of your home are used to store unrelated clutter, not for their main purpose.

  • You own lots of duplicate items.

  • You don’t like having people over because you’re embarrassed by all the clutter.

  • You own a storage unit, but don’t visit it or keep track of what’s inside.

Here’s How to Avoid Having “Too Much Stuff”:

  • One in, one out rule. Before bringing more items into your home, take something out first.

  • Declutter on the regular. Even five minutes of a mini declutter can keep excess stuff out of your home.

  • Stop impulse buying!

  • Return what you don’t need.

  • Donate on the regular. Think of those in need and how they can benefit from your excess items.

While I’m on the topic of space and cleaning…you may have noticed a door on the second floor of Patina which was always closed. We’ve decided to open it up and combine this room with its neighbor to give us more space. It will allow us to enlarge our baby gift section among other things, and the cabinets will provide much needed storage for back stock. check out this work in progress:

We hope to have it completed in the next few days and can’t wait for you to enjoy more “space” at Patina (I practice what I preach) !
