Big Rug News from Red Barn Mercantile

With each Fall and Spring market come new product introductions. When Dash & Albert released their new offerings, we were pleasantly surprised to see custom sized rugs. (I even did a little happy wiggle when I heard, it’s that exciting). For the last dozen years, we have carried Dash & Albert rugs and for the last dozen years we have gotten the question, “do they do custom sizes?” Now, we can safely say, “Yes!” But only on a few select rugs.Dash has launched three new woven wool designs with three new colorways per design that can be cut to size (within limitations, of course). Also, each rug can come with or without an attached rug pad, which is new for Dash & Albert. To say that this is a game changer is an understatement. Sticking with neutral colors (and, as we have said before, animal print is absolutely a neutral) the rugs provide a lot of options and flexibility.Since it’s still upholstery sale season, I thought it would be fun to demonstrate just how versatile the designs are with some of our favorite upholstered pieces. I took one colorway from each pattern and created a little vignette in a study, a living room, and a bedroom. The large-scale navy blue herringbone pattern felt like a cozy study to me. I wanted to balance the masculine pattern with a softer shape and fabric for the desk chair. The Art chair is curvy, and the Sister Parish fabric is sweet. Pair that with the gorgeous desk and the leather wrapped lamp and masculine meets feminine, gets married, and lives happily ever after.

Study: Desk, $4,100; Art chair, $1,200 before the sale and $864 during the sale; Fabric, $170/yd; Desk lamp, $875

For the living room I went with the Fleck in grey. The pattern is simple and not so bold as to steal the show. We have a pair of these chairs in the store right now in that beautiful sea foam velvet which are on sale so run, don’t walk in to get them. I thought they paired with the simple rug beautifully. This little vignette just needed a floor lamp for reading and a side table with a little sex appeal to keep it from being predictable.

Living Room: Chair, $2,025 before the sale and $1,458 during the sale; Floor lamp, $465; Side table, $2,200

Finally, the Panthera in neutral with its soft pink in the pattern called for an additional pink statement. I love the curves of the Emma bed from Cisco and this pale pink slubby linen fabric for its slipcover. Staying with the organic patterns, lines, and materials, I went with cream-colored ruffled fine linen bedding, a natural rattan side table, and this curvy ceramic lamp. This little vignette is ready for a good night’s sleep and a little romance.

Bedroom: Emma Queen Bed, $4,650 before the sale and $3,348 during the sale; Duvet, $494; Standard sham, $126 each; Nightstand, $1,950; Table lamp, $300
