Cold Weather Changes to Your Skincare Routine

There’s nothing earth-shattering and likely nothing you haven’t heard before in this post, but time and again, it seems that although we know it… we forget to do it. We have a routine, we have the products, and we keep using them even though our skin isn’t responding the same as it used to. If you’ve woken up the past few days or weeks and your skin doesn’t seem as happy as it did weeks ago, it’s time for a change. Try making these simple tweaks to your routine and get your skin glowing again.

Cleansing

If your skin is feeling a bit dry now that the weather has gotten colder, you may want to try switching from a gel cleanser to milk. We like a hybrid milky gel like Rilastil’s Aqua Cleanser.

Exfoliating

Make sure you exfoliate. Dry skin and dead skin cells pile up and make hydration difficult to achieve. Getting rid of the dead skin will help to make your serums and moisturizers more effective. Try mixing up your exfoliators and stick to acids. You may need to exfoliate more than you normally do.

Hydrating Serum or Facial Oil

An added layer of hydration in the form of a hydrating serum or facial oil under your moisturizer will protect your skin from the dry air inside and out. With the heater on, all the moisture in the air is being sucked out. Make sure it isn’t coming out of your skin as well.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Our skin repairs itself at night. Having all your skincare on by 10pm means that you take advantage of the night’s repairing time. Make sure to get your skincare on as early in the evening as possible. You don’t have to actually be asleep for your skin to reap the benefits and start repairing itself.  If your skin isn’t happy, you won’t be either.
