Street Style: Shmide Conserve

When we first met Shmide, we were all so excited. Not only was it evident how sweet and kind she was, but her love of fashion was clear and she wanted to work retail! With her dreams of being in the fashion design industry, can you believe she found us?! How did we get so lucky?! A recent transplant from Savanah, Georgia, she sent her resume our way, and well, the rest is history. The first thing you’ll notice is her kind smile and amazingly positive attitude. The next thing you’ll notice is she is always dressed beautifully. It doesn’t matter if it's a casual jeans and t-shirt or cocktail attire, her style is classic mixed with a serious edge. She knows how to make the latest trends work effortlessly, never looking like she is trying. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting or working with Shmide in either The Hive or The Shoe Hive, make sure to stop by and introduce yourself. You’ll love working with her. Her styling advice is second to none!

ABOUT YOU

How do you spend your time? I spend most of my time working two jobs and if I’m not working I’m going to networking events. How long have you lived in Alexandria: I have lived in Alexandria for two years. What is your hometown? Providence, R.I.What brought you to Alexandria? I came to Alexandria for an adventure on a whim. What would surprise people about you? That French was my first language. Also, that I am working on my product development degree in fashion. You’re a superhero: what’s your superpower?Favorite cocktail: Mojito. They’re very refreshing, in my opinion.Last book read or movie seen: The last book I read was The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison; the last movie I saw was Us. Guilty Pleasure: YouTube tutorials. I, like, live on YouTube. Phrase you overuse:Facebook or Instagram? Instagram all the way, no questions asked! Latest binge-watch: Black Mirror. It’s all types of weird and I’m here for it. Bucket list travel destination: Definitely Bali...looking up tickets as we speak. If you only could have one for the rest of your life: wine or coffee? I would choose wine (I’m not a big coffee drinker).

FASHION

Define your style in three words or less: Creative, edgy, and hip.The go-to piece in your wardrobe: A basic tee. Scratch that: lots of basic tees. Favorite trend ever: When you can’t figure out what you want to wear, pull out a t-shirt. You can dress it up and down and you'll never be out of style. Favorite current trend: Unpopular opinion: matching two- piece outfits are fire. What can go is oversized jewelry. In my opinion, it ends up wearing you.Beauty product you can’t live without: Mascara. Lashes have to be voluminous and flawless at all times. Heels or flats? I mean, I’m more of a boot person; if it could have some heel, that would be ideal.

HOME

Favorite room in your home: My living room is the best part of my home, where most creativity and bonding happens for me. Plus, its cozy. Antiques, modern, or a mix? I like a contemporary style home with a hint of industrial. Last item bought for your home: The last thing I bought for my house was a set of bamboo sheets. They are by far the best thing that could happen for my hair and skin. Next planned purchase: I need a new lamp, because I’m a klutz and broke my last lamp. Favorite way to entertain: My favorite way to entertain is with a game of Cards Against Humanity because it’s a nice ice breaker and no one is worried about putting on a good face. We are all just having fun.

FITNESS

Your go-to work-out: SquatsMost fun way to exercise: Dancing Group exercise or solo: I like working out solo because it doesn't feel like a competition or a need to catch up with the group. Fitness goal: My fitness goal is to just maintain in shape. Proudest fitness achievement: My proudest fitness achievement is getting up and finding the time to go to the gym.

ALEXANDRIA

Favorite spot in Alexandria: The Hive, of course! On the real, I love going to the waterfront because it’s just nice to have a place where you can relax and have peace of mind. That’s where I get most of my creative ideas, whether it is styling, fashion design, or just drawing for fun. Best coffee / happy hour / date night spot: I don't really do coffee, but I love the smoothies from South Block. For happy hour, I love going to Don Taco. I usually get a mojito but if I am feeling a little daring I would try their drink of the week. Date night? I love Delia’s Mediterranean Grill. If you ever get the chance to go, try their prosciutto white pizza and wings followed by an AMC movie across the street.Favorite annual Alexandria event: Halloween in Old Town. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I love to see everyone take part and dress up for the night.
