A Community That Cares: ACT for Alexandria’s Spring2ACTion Kicks Off
It was a packed house at ACT for Alexandria’s Kick Off Party, sponsored by Passport Auto on Wednesday evening at ALX Community Waterfront. We Alexandrians love to mingle and especially when it’s for a good cause and supporting so many. The evening included a delish spread from Alexandria Restaurant Partners and the Garden. This year, there are over 190 participating organizations – and there is a cause that everyone can connect with, or an organization where a neighbor works or has received support. This is how we pay it forward and how we give back.
The evening’s guest speakers included Mayor Alyia Gaskins who stressed the importance of each of these organizations in serving and uplifting our community. Congressman Don Beyer spoke of seeing beyond our differences and having empathy for others. He also shared his love for Old Town, where he lives with his wife, Megan Beyer—a lifelong Alexandrian, journalist, activist, and advocate for women’s rights and gender issues—close by.

While the official Giving Day is April 9, early giving has already started with donations accepted online at www.Spring2ACTion.org. Donors can search by organization name or cause and donate through their mobile phone, tablet, or computer.
If you’ve never contributed before, how do you get started? Search for an organization or multiple organizations to support. There are a range of causes that need your help: health, bikes, animals, environment, education, foster care, and so much more. Each nonprofit has a profile so you can learn about their mission. Minimum donation is $5, but give as much as you can. Some nonprofits also have sponsors who will match your donation. There’s a running tally on each page.
If you’re not familiar with ACT of Alexandria, they are a nonprofit that raises money for other organizations and amplifies all the amazing work going on around them. They bring people and resources together. They provide this platform for the community, and are also one of the nonprofits participating in this annual day of giving. You can add a small donation to ACT at the end. This will go to helping with grants and supporting the Youth Council.
Visit Spring2ACTion because every donation counts and makes an impact for our community! There will be prizes awarded throughout the day. There are leaderboards online so you can follow the tally in real time. The site is open year-round and it’s a great way to search for a cause that interests you and learn more about the organizations raising money for it.
