A Modern Holiday Tablescape, Grandmother Approved

At the risk of sounding like a Taylor Swift song — it’s your table, you make the rules. Yes, there are a few key ingredients and old-fashioned practices, such as silverware and glassware placement, but beyond that, let your hair down and have some fun.

For the table in our Ivy Lane Showroom, we wanted the look to be comprised of vintage and new pieces. White tablecloth? No way. We had a custom one whipped up by the ever-classic Schumacher. The monotone colors and their signature timeless florals set the groundwork for the table.

Next up, the hardware. The muted gold silverware is from Target (pocketbook win!), and the plates are Grandmother’s passed down china, which are always in style. We had a few different patterns to choose from dish-wise but chose the simplest one, so the eye had a steady place to land. We topped each dish with a custom-made napkin that proudly displayed a leopard. Leopard and the florals? 100 percent. They go together like Jonny and June.

We threw caution to the wind for the glassware and had a mix of different colored wine, water glasses, and champagne coupes by Instagram’s favorite, Estelle Colored Glassware. (The hype is real, these are incredible. ) When creating a holiday table, in this case, Thanksgiving, you’re not obligated to associate the “fall” colors, such as burnt orange and yellow. Fall is a whole mood. We chose this season’s it color, emerald green, and mixed in blush, teal, and a smokey gray for the glassware. Corn stems and pumpkins… we get it, we get it. You don’t need to spell it out for your guests for them to feel the festiveness. Swap out the ubiquitous little pumpkin for a fall foliage scented candle for a full sensory experience.

Drum roll, please, the florals. We showed Rachel, the incredible woman who runs Helen Olivia Flowers, the colors we were using and said, “go to town” on the centerpiece and small bud vases. Rachel is an artist and knows her craft - we trusted her, and she certainly delivered. The bold florals were gorgeous, different, and they created the varying levels of height that every table needs.

If there is any takeaway from this, make it interesting. Your guests will absolutely notice and appreciate that special touch. We have the tablecloth, candles, glassware, napkins, and other fun table accessories available in our showroom. So please make an appointment to come on by!

New showroom walk-in hours will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am- 4pm now through December!
