A Toast to Tradition: The Campagna Center’s 54th Annual Taste of Scotland

If you’ve lived in Alexandria long enough, you know that the holidays officially begin when the sound of bagpipes rolls down King Street and the tartan scarves come out in full force. The Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend is one of the most beloved celebrations in town, and it all kicks off with one of the best events of the season: The Taste of Scotland, benefitting The Campagna Center.

Now in its 54th year, the Taste of Scotland is equal parts festive and philanthropic. This year’s event will be held on Friday, December 5, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the ALX Community Atrium (277 S Washington St Suite 210). It brings together Scotch lovers, local supporters, and a sea of holiday plaid for a night that truly captures the spirit of Alexandria.

Each year, proceeds from the event directly support Campagna’s programs which together serve more than 2,000 children and families across the city. These initiatives help families access quality education, early childhood support, and pathways to economic stability. In other words, every glass raised at the Taste of Scotland goes right back into the community. Cheers to that!

This year’s guests can expect tastings of more than 30 varieties of Scotch and whiskey from around the world, festive food and drinks, and a few surprises along the way. There will be expert-led whisky education from MacMillan Spirit House, interactive games and prizes, and plenty of opportunities to mix, mingle, and celebrate.

The fun continues the following morning with the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade, presented by Wegmans, which takes over Old Town on Saturday, December 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The parade features bagpipers, dancers, Scottish clans, floats, and plenty of festive spirit. It’s free, family-friendly, and an annual reminder of how rich Alexandria’s traditions really are.

After eight decades, The Campagna Center continues to be one of the city’s most vital organizations, creating educational opportunities for thousands of local children and families. And for me, that’s what makes this weekend so special – it’s not just about Scotch and plaid (though both are excellent reasons to celebrate), it’s about a community coming together to support one another and give back.

Tickets for the Taste of Scotland start at $150 per person and guests must be 21 or older to attend.

Cheers to 54 years of tradition, community, and really good Scotch!
