Alexandria's Inova Hospitals - What's Next For Them?

Next time you're in a room full of Alexandrians, ask them who has been positively impacted by the care from Inova Hospitals. I'm fairly confident every hand would go up. Because of this impact, I'm excited to announce that I've recently been elected as a Trustee of the Inova Alexandria Foundation Board! Inova is ranked the seventh Best Hospital in the DMV and offers our community world-class service and care, serving two million people annually. The purpose of the foundation is to oversee Inova Alexandria Hospital's philanthropic activities, and my joining comes at an important time as Inova Alexandria begins to build our new hospital at Landmark and our ambulatory facility at Oakville at Potomac Yard.

Inova's mission is to provide world-class healthcare to each person in every community we have the privilege to serve. With nearly 19,000 team members who serve more than two million individuals annually, Inova is Northern Virginia's leading nonprofit healthcare provider. Inova is focused on growing Inova's talent through education, recruitment, and training; to pioneer research, innovation, and technology. The goal is to enhance patient care and support the well-being of our community and of the Inova team.

In December of 2020, Inova announced plans for a mixed-use community and state-of-the-art medical campus at the former Landmark Mall site. The Inova Alexandria Hospital at Landmark is scheduled to be completed in 2028 to serve as the Eastern Region's home of the Inova women's, heart and vascular, and cancer programs. The hospital will include private patient rooms and a larger emergency room. It will also be one of only three Level II trauma centers in Northern Virginia, providing 24-hour specialty services for trauma care. This project will partner with the City of Alexandria as the Landmark Mall site redevelops to create a multi-use neighborhood with healthcare, housing, and retail. This project recognizes that multi-use spaces are the way of the future. A hospital isn't just for the sick, so the area plans to service hospital workers and hospital visitors with retail, grocery, and housing supported by both Inova and the area residents.

Next week on November 5, the 2021 Inova Honors celebration event will recognize team members from Inova's Patient Financial Assistant and Inova Cares Clinics programs. The goal of the event is to raise over one million dollars through event sponsorships, ticket sales, and auction proceeds. This will directly benefit patients, families, and communities across our region who have been the hardest hit by COVID-19. For these individuals, programs like Patient Financial Assistance and our Inova Cares Clinics are vital to receiving the healthcare and support they need, where and when they need it.

I am thrilled and honored to be a part of our incredible Inova system and, as I embark on this new chapter as a Trustee of the Inova Alexandria Board, I can promise our readers that you'll be the first to know of all the amazing things coming our way at both Inova Alexandria Hospital and Oakville at Potomac Yard.
