An Alexandria Socialite’s Spring-Summer Calendar

Gala season is here! I love wearing gowns and dressing up, and spring in the D.C. area has lots of choices that raise money for good causes. Want a guide to Alexandria Gala Season? Here it is:

Pink Tie Party

This one is in D.C. celebrating the Cherry Blossoms, but it’s worth venturing across the river for it. Always a huge event spanning multiple sections of a building with cool architecture, like Union Station, and decorated to the nines. Last year, it had a D.C., Tokyo, Paris theme and there were all sorts of fun events like a fashion show, Drag show, dancing and a few years ago there were even acrobats on aerial silk. The event has good food from restaurants across D.C. with amazing sake and champagne. Ladies and Gents remember to don some pink for this one!

Senior Services Gala

This is an Alexandria staple for those wanting to meet and mingle with the people on the forefront of volunteering and assisting nonprofits, as well as, policymakers and community leaders. They always honor people who have assisted Senior Services and its various programs and it is so inspiring to hear the difference people are making in our community. It is so positive. It’s a fun black tie optional event at the Westin, and the live band, silent auction and food make it really fun. But don’t miss the mingling at the start of the event, it’s the highlight of the night!!

Spring2Action Kickoff Party

This is more of a low-key gathering to celebrate ACT and what they do for all the nonprofits of Alexandria as they kick off the 15th Annual Spring2ACTion. In 2014, ACT helped 188 nonprofit organizations in Alexandria raise $2.8 million dollars – what an amazing thing to be a part of!

Scholarship Fund of Alexandria Bloom Gala

You all know that this IS the Gala of Alexandria right? This is the “you gotta be there” one. It’s hosted at the Hilton because they need a gigantic space for everyone that attends. I feel like I am at a wedding going to this party and although I can never talk to everyone I know – I try! The Titans Drum Line marches the programming in and there is a fun silent and live auction.  And the Scholarship Fund does such good work. Afterwards they have a great band, and if you don’t have a dance partner, don’t worry there will be a good crowd on the dance floor who won’t let you dance alone!

The Campagna Center’s 80th Anniversary Gala

So, every now and again, the Campagna Center takes a pause from their normal programming to celebrate a big anniversary, and this is a big one! Hosted in May it’s always full of beautiful colorful spring gowns. The mission of the Campagna Center always brings me to their events because they work so seamlessly with city schools to provide cradle to graduation services for students in a variety of ways, from families in need to students who need a great afterschool program.

Hope to see you at one or many of these events!
