Are You Too Old for Eyeshadow?

I am often asked, “Am I too old for eyeshadow?” The short answer is no…and, maybe. As we get older the way we’ve been wearing our eyeshadow -- as well as the type of eyeshadow we’ve been wearing -- may no longer be doing us any favors. Our eyes become more hooded and get a bit more crepe-y in texture. Shimmer and glitter shadows only accentuate the folds and lines in our eyelids. The purples and browns we always loved now just make us look tired. But don't despair. The good news is that there are plenty of matte shadows that can do just the opposite.Eye primer is also your friend. The red and blue tones from your veins can be neutralized with a skin tone eye primer. We love the ones by Blinc and Smashbox. Then a sweep of a cream colored matte shadow from lash to brow will open the eye and make it look brighter. Instead of purple or darker brown, try a taupe or gray shadow in the crease. Keep the dark brown or black shadows you have to lightly sweep and set over your eyeliner to soften the effect. That shimmer shadow you love can be placed right under the brow and in the corner of the eye near the nose for an instant eyelift. Try Jouer’s new Essential Jet Set Eyeshadow Palette. Not sure how to make the switch? Come on in to Bellacara and we’ll show you. You’re not too old to wear eyeshadow, you may just have to change the way you’re wearing it.
