Many trends come and go and then come around again. Sometimes I’m happy about it, but sometimes I’m not. High-waisted jeans? Hell, yeah…no one likes a muffin top. Gaucho pants? Hell, no…they weren’t cute then and they’re not cute now. So, when I started spotting blue eye makeup on the runways then on celebrity after celebrity, I must admit I was skeptical.I grew up in the 80s, so I wore my fair share of blue eyeshadow and eyeliner. It looked really good with my hair crimped and pulled back in a banana clip. But how would it look now? Also, I’m just a tad bit older than I was then. And I’ve somehow misplaced all my banana clips. Could I make this work post-Borderline Madonna?I set out to find out and it turns out that the answer is yes. However, there are some important rules to live by when rocking this trend.Number one is that baby blue is not your friend. I tried it six different ways from Sunday and I couldn’t make it look current.So that leads me to rule number two. Keep it to jewel tones; navy and teal seemed to work best.Rule number three is keep it below the crease. The color looked freshest in deep tones from lid to crease or smudged at the lash line. The minute it crept up too far, it started to look like a black eye…not good.Keeping these rules in mind, I’d say go ahead and give it a go.
