Behind the Design: How Boutique Textiles and Trusted Partnerships Shape Kristin Try Interiors Projects

At Kristin Try Interiors (KTI), the design process goes far deeper than pulling together pretty patterns and colors. For us, textiles are the emotional core of a space—the layers that bring warmth, character, and story to a home. What clients often don’t see is the behind-the-scenes collaboration that makes this magic happen. One of our most valued relationships is with Dianna Gniadek Owen of Owen Design Lines, a local to-the-trade textile representative whose boutique lines help us cultivate truly unique interiors.

Dianna’s curated selection of artisan textiles is nothing short of extraordinary. She represents over 25 boutique vendors, many of which are small, women-owned businesses creating fabrics with soul. Her lines from Britain and the U.S. are particular favorites of ours—offering everything from hand-printed linens to richly textured velvets and wallpapers that are art. Even better, many of these lines include performance fabrics that are as durable as they are beautiful, allowing us to design spaces that are both elevated and livable.

Working with Dianna is a true partnership. She’s involved in most of our projects, helping us source the perfect textiles to complement our vision and our clients’ lifestyles. Her deep knowledge of her lines and her intuitive understanding of design make her an essential part of our creative process. When she walks through our studio doors with a box of new releases, it’s like Christmas morning—we’re always excited to discover what’s next.

Dianna’s journey into boutique textiles began with a spark of inspiration during a visit to Charleston’s Fritz Porter showroom, where she fell in love with the world of unique, underrepresented fabric lines. That moment led her to build Owen Design Lines, a business rooted in bringing that same sense of discovery to designers in the DC area. Her passion for textiles and her commitment to supporting small makers align perfectly with our values at KTI.

What makes this collaboration so special is the shared belief that textiles are more than just materials—they’re expressions of artistry, heritage, and heart. Dianna doesn’t just sell fabric; she helps us tell stories through design. And for our clients, this behind-the-scenes glimpse reveals just how much care and intention goes into every detail of their home.

At KTI, we’re proud to work with partners like Dianna who elevate our work and help us create spaces that are not only beautiful, but meaningful to tell our client’s stories. It’s a layered process, full of creativity, collaboration, and a deep love for the craft—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kristin has called Alexandria home for the past 23 years and fell in love with the small-town feel, diverse and interesting people, and walking the Mount Vernon Trail and streets of Alexandria. She is constantly inspired by the historic and old homes all around our city, the thriving small businesses and boutiques, and endless opportunities the area has to offer.

After spending several years in government affairs, Kristin took an opportunity to explore her love of art and design. She launched her business in 2015 and now dreams of creating an Alexandria-focused boutique design build firm with all women leadership.

Kristin loves spending time at home with her three active and loving girls, do-it-all husband, and sweet dog, Duke. Her home is her art and design lab where she is always tinkering with a design project, cooking up a healthy recipe while sipping a good wine or coffee, reading the latest and greatest leadership book, and dreaming of the next travel adventure.
