The No Makeup Makeup Look
When Lady Gaga came on stage at the Oscars, the internet went wild. She went from a full-drama look on the red carpet to a perfectly flawless no-makeup look. I’ll go ahead and admit that I scrutinized her look on TV and she looked bare-faced and all-natural with minimal pores, bright skin, and that effervescent glow, if only we could be so lucky! But, we do have secret weapons...
I often get asked how to achieve a no-makeup makeup look. To me, there are different interpretations of this type of makeup. A client may want just a concealer to brighten under the eyes and even out imperfections, perhaps add a cream blush for a natural flush, some mascara, and a dab of gloss. Another might want tinted moisturizer set ever so lightly with a translucent powder before adding some bronzer. When I do editorial or television shoots, or special events, I typically add more coverage, color, and highlighter to get that flawless effect. Meaning in person, it may look like more makeup, but the end result looks natural, even minimal on camera. Compared to the no-makeup makeup look for every day which is minimal, uses less product that gives a high impact. The end result is natural and effortless.
Here are a few secret weapons I recommend:
1. SkinCeuticals HA Intensifier: A strong skin care regimen is critical to get optimal results! The better shape your skin is in, the fewer products you'll need for a natural healthy glow. This is one of my favorite products to help hydrate and plump!
2. Kevyn Aucoin Stripped Nude Skin Tint: An easy effortless way to even out the skin. It is a layerable, blendable, super lightweight foundation that has an airbrushed next-to-nothing finish!
3. ROEN Cheeky Blush: This melt-in-your-skin cream blush gives a beautiful youthful hydrated wash of color.
4. ROEN RÓGLOW Skin Stick: Highlighting made easy for an instant dewy luminous glow!
5. RMS Liplights Cream Lip Gloss: A non-sticky gloss that has a plumping effect, hydrates, repairs, and adds a touch of shine. It comes in a variety of colors to complement any skin tone!
When it comes to customizing my client's look, assessing their skin type and knowing what other products they like to wear such as eyeliner, brow gel, etc. is key. So, I can then pair down the list and give them a simple routine, incorporating their favorites and must-haves. Stop by Bellacara for some tips for your own personalized no makeup makeup look!
