Bored? Try a Puzzle.

I welcome a good distraction these days. Binge watching British period mystery dramas, taking walks, baking, really anything that will take my mind off the current drama and keep my mind engaged. Puzzles are the thing that we come back to again and again. My daughter, Kate, and I have been spending hours doing jigsaw puzzles to pass the time. One of the silver linings in all of this is that I have gotten to spend extra time with her. Sometimes in silence just being and sometimes discussing the interests of a quirky, complicated 14-year-old girl.We prefer the 1000 pieced puzzles but have been known to bust out a 500 piece to shake it up a bit. We did this double sided one recently and the tonal side nearly broke us. But we persevered and got it done. We breezed through the colorful side in no time at all. What a relief it gave us. What a relief from the monotony puzzles have given us.If you are in need of a break from your routine or for something to do while you discuss the meaning of life with your teenager – or anyone really – then look no further. We have what you need. Puzzles seem to be the only thing folks need right now and we are here to provide. Below are just a few of the offerings we have at both stores. Take a look online here and here for the full selection. Happy puzzling, all! [nemus_slider id="73779"]

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations. Inspired by the art of personal correspondence, the power of handwritten notes, and the smell of freshly printed stationery, we surround ourselves with quirky, hilarious, and classically beautiful things to make life a little brighter.
