Why Catstudio’s Military Collection Is So Special to Me

Here’s one thing you may not know about me: I’m an Air Force brat. My dad was a fighter pilot and served for more than 30 years. Before turning 8, my family moved six times. I went to two high schools, but never lived overseas like a lot of military children. Whenever I meet another military brat, there is an immediate connection and a shared history. We know what it feels like to move around, to have our parents gone for long stretches of time, to be the new kid in school, to lose friends, and to make new ones. My friend Kelley, who is an Army brat who attended three high schools, and I started a club. Right now, it’s just the two of us, but if there are any other military brats out there who would like to join, our meetings are held at Cheesetique once a month. We welcome new members. As demanding as it was to grow up in the military, I wouldn’t change it for the world. It was an amazing experience and I had a rich and fulfilling childhood. So much so that, when Catstudio announced that they were launching a new collection of pillows, glasses, and dishtowels featuring the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, my little heart jumped for joy. It jumped further when they told us that a portion of each sale goes back to the support the services. What a wonderful and unique way to celebrate all those that have served and are currently serving in the military. Each design features virtually every military base in the U.S., along with a bit of history of the branch. The Air Force pillow is a map of my childhood in vibrant color and soft squishy goodness. This Veterans Day, as we honor those that have volunteered their service to protect our great country and their families, I’m pleased to introduce you to the Military Collection from Catstudio…[nemus_slider id="54328"]

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations.
