Classic Blue by Red Barn Mercantile

When I heard that Pantone had named Classic Blue as the color of the year, I did a little happy dance. No, I did a big happy dance. I figured 2020 was going to be our year, because if you need blue, then we can do blue. We love blue from chambray to deep navy. Sometimes I think I should have called us Blue Barn Mercantile there’s so much blue. It’s kind of a problem, really. I agonize on what additional colors to bring in just so I can avoid too much blue. But usually wind up falling short with the reds, greens, and yellows opting for the blue spectrum seven out of ten times. 🤷🏻‍♀️Today I thought I’d share a couple of things with you. First is a few of our favorite blue things. From dishtowels and bedding to lamps and rugs, we have the classic blue you need. Then to show you how we might pull together a classic blue room, I threw together a lovely living room for your designing pleasure.

Clockwise from Left to Right:  Zinnia Jute Rug, $100 to $2,328; Fine Denim Rag Rug, $42 to $518; Mattress Ticking Cotton Rug, $44 to $518; Krabi Tobacco Pillow, $180; Amreli Azure Pillow, $180; Emily Dere Old Town Doors Dishtowel, $20; Navy Blue Gingham Tray, $28; Montauk Chair, price varies; Kaya Table Lamp, $465; Batik Table Lamp, $350; Ollie Coffee Table, $2,800; Dasati Duvet Set, $545; Tulusa Mum Print Set Of Four Napkins, $59.

The warmer than usual temps had me thinking about a softer, brighter palette than a usual dark and moody winter theme. I started with the navy blue sofa because what’s more classic than that? Then I added a balance with the lighter tones of the rug, chairs, and wall color. Also, sticking with the natural linen and wool, I added the bold teak coffee table and the natural rattan side tables. There’s a lot of texture, but nothing overwhelms. To make classic blue the star of the room I kept the pattern play minimal and within the same tone. The one lone red pillow is to balance out the red in the artwork. And, there you have it. Classic blue by Red Barn Mercantile. Enjoy!
