Designer Spotlight: Katie Kime
I love all things Texas. Over a decade ago, Sean and I lived in Austin while he worked for Dell, I worked for Public Strategies and we both ate queso for at least two of our three daily meals. Once, during the filming of Friday Night Lights, I saw Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton sipping Mexican martinis at the Four Seasons. Almost better than the birth of my first child. But one reason I love Texas is the amazing female-led design that comes out of the great state. Caitlin Wilson, Kendra Scott, Brittany Allen - I could keep going. And Katie Kime is a major player (disregard the fact that she went to Duke). I first started following her funky, brilliant wallpaper. Parlor toile, camels, elephants - she is keeping Austin weird. Then when I saw she branched out to homeware - I knew Old Town needed some Katie Kime stat. After all, she describes her design sense as preppy chic goes global. Think, "Bohemian and bourgeois. Traditional shapes meet colorful, modern prints. Optimistic, bright, and often unexpected." Sounds like Boxwood to me. See more pics of her Westlake home here. We've started with great gifts - lucite trays, coasters, notepads. And we're bringing in ice buckets for the spring (Joanna is obsessed with the ice buckets - we had to hold her back from turning Boxwood into an ice bucket only shop).
