Holiday Party Prep: Tips to Go From Day to Night When You're On The Move

This is the time of year when save-the-dates and holiday invites start to roll in. If you've been looking in the mirror and trying to plan out when to get those roots touched up, get a fresh cut, and tone down your color, I'm here to help.

Here are 8 Tips to Prep for Holiday Party Season:

  • Touch up those roots. They may not be noticeable now, but remember a flash and bright lighting will forever memorialize those roots in photos. Ombre is still in, or you may want to try a little balayage with a money piece in the front – which will frame your face in a great light for holiday photos!

  • Add shine. Does your hair look lackluster and feel dry and dull? A conditioning treatment can bring out the shine. I recommend Kevin Murphy’s Shimmer Shine. Apply after you wash and dry your hair.

  • Blowouts save the day. When you have back-to-back events, a great blowout will take you from morning to night, and then the next day, too. To make your blowout last longer, sleep on a satin pillowcase (also tames frizz), or use heatless curlers. A few curling iron touch ups and dry shampoo can make your blowout look like new.

  • Have someone else do your makeup. If you have an evening event, get your makeup done after lunch so you don't smudge or wipe off some of the application.

  • Brighten up. A red lipstick can work magic to lighten up your face after a long day. I recommend Lip Suede: Les Rouges from Westman Atelier. You can pick it up at Bellacara, it’s customizable and fabulous!

  • Dry shampoo can be a girl's best friend. I recommend Kevin Murphy’s Fresh Hair. Hold the product five to six inches from your head and aim at the root; otherwise, it will pile up too quickly. Use the Boar Bristle Paddle Detangling Hair Brush to pull it through from the roots to the mid-shaft. I am absolutely in love with this brush, you can grab it in person at Salon DeZEN. And remember to pregame your hair by putting the dry shampoo in before you even need it!

  • Stay hydrated. When we're running around all day and on your third cup of coffee,  remember it's water that keeps your skin looking flush. Carry a bottle in your bag, it's weight will remind you to drink it.

  • Sleep. Easier said than done, but it's true that few things help reduce puffiness and tired eyes better than a good night of sleep. And Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Eye De-Puffer can also help!

So instead of feeling overwhelmed by the thought of so many upcoming holiday events, start feeling empowered and ready to represent.

Our calendar is filling up quickly for holiday party prep, so make sure to book your hair and makeup appointments at Salon DeZEN soon! We’ll help you look and feel your very best, because you absolutely deserve to enjoy yourself!
