A Look Into Emily & Dan’s Special Day

Writing wedding features, whether for our blog or for a Stylebook article, is always a favorite subject. Each wedding is so unique, and each couple really becomes a part of the Helen Olivia family. Emily and Dan are no exception and will forever be among our favorite couples we’ve worked with. We are so excited to share this special day with you.

The venue, Meridian House, is a standout favorite of ours in Washington, D.C. A historic home with French influence throughout, it is most loved for its sprawling gardens, pea gravel courtyard, and incredible architecture. If you’ve had the pleasure of attending a wedding there, you know it’s a venue that transports you back to another time.

The ceremony, which took place in the garden, featured a gorgeous petal-lined aisle with lush garden urns in shades of blush and green. Despite being in the thick of cicada season, we were blessed with a bug-less and beautiful June night.

The reception featured gorgeous blush and white linens and a striking mix of towering centerpieces and low, candlelit designs. Extra touches - like vintage rental furniture - made the perfect perch for wedding guests to take a break from the packed dance floor. Every detail down to the throw pillows was hand-selected.  One of our favorite floral splurges came in the form of over-the-top floral installations on each of the mantels in the home.  Perhaps our favorite touch - and a first for us - was the addition of a signature scent. Emily worked with Jo Malone London to layer scents throughout the venue, so guests were emersed with all their senses. Lucky guests enjoyed surprises throughout the night, from signature cocktails to a donut wall to custom favors. It was truly a special wedding.

I would be remiss to leave out the bit about how gracefully Emily and Dan navigated a pandemic. These two handled a year-long postponement with grace and even opted for an intimate elopement in the Virginia countryside on what would have been their original wedding date. Truly, they turned lemons into lemonade, and we felt lucky to pull off not one but two beautiful weddings for them.
