Find the Right Vitamin C Serum For You
Years ago, when I started at Bellacara, I tried the coveted and adored antioxidant concoction known as SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. This powerhouse serum is the gold standard of skincare. Its patented formula is unsurpassed by any copycats on the market. It fights free radicals, brightens skin tone, fades hyperpigmentation, and softens fine lines.
Unfortunately, I am one of the few who cannot tolerate this magic potion. If you can tolerate SkinCeutical’s holy grail antioxidant serums, please do. If not, here are some other excellent options:
Dermalogica’s Biolumin-C Serum contains aminopropyl ascorbyl phosphate, a stable form of vitamin C known for reducing melanin production to minimize sun and age spots and hyperpigmentation. It is also less likely to cause irritation ($89).
Melanie Simon’s Serum C is a clean formula containing tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, an oil-soluble form of vitamin C. This form of vitamin C not only absorbs more effectively but also brightens and evens out skin tone, prevents UV damage, and improves collagen synthesis, thereby softening fine lines and wrinkles. It also reduces melanin production ($200).
Dr. Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Brighten & Firm Vitamin C Serum contains ethyl ascorbic acid, a highly stable and non-irritating form of Vitamin C. This power-packed gel serum powered by the proprietary energy complex, 3-O C vitamin C technology, revitalizes dull, tired, or aging skin ($78).
