Our Four Favorite Easy Summer Hairstyles
When the summer sun comes out and the temperature rises, it’s time to find some chic ways to get your hair up and off your face and neck. Here are four of our favorites...
Dutch Braid
The Dutch Braid is a seriously gorgeous braid. It sweeps from one side across the top of the head and down the side. This braid looks best when you have thicker hair. If your hair is thinner, it works better with clip-in hair extensions. Either way, you have to have longer hair for this look. If your hair is shorter it will be too hard to pull it to the side loosely. The braid will appear much tighter. The model in the photo has a good head of hair.I wanted to try a take on the look with some hair up and part of it down and pulled to the side. In order to get the volume necessary, I added a few clip-in hair extensions from the beauty supply store. This is something you have to play with. The more you clip them in and play around with them, the more realistic the effect will be.
Top Knot
This is the ultimate look for poolside fun. It's chic and won't get messed up when you get in the water. It looks equally lovely in a messy, loosely pulled up knot as it does clean and tight. If you want a clean and tight top knot, I find it easier to to achieve when the hair is wet. Pull the hair up into an elastic band on the center of your head, smoothing as you go. Then twist the hair until it is tightly coiled. Then loop it around until you have no more hair to wrap around the base of the bun. Grab another elastic and fasten around the knot.
Double Braids
I admit that I haven't rocked this look since I was 12, but the other day a customer of mine in her 60s was sporting it and I have to say...she looked chic as hell.
Double Bun
A fresh take on an updo. Start with pigtails and loop them into buns. Secure them with hair elastics and you've taken a child's hairstyle and given it new life.
