Getting To I Do: A Very Special Wedding Workshop

It’s been a very, very, very long time since I planned a wedding. My ceremony was by a pond on the front acreage of my in-law’s home in Ramona, Oklahoma, a town without even a stoplight. The reception was under the carport in the back and the afterparty was a bonfire down at the old train tracks that saw a train maybe once a month. It rained the morning of the wedding, I did my own makeup and hair, a feral farm dog followed me down the aisle, and my headpiece kept slipping off my head, so after the I do’s were done I took it off and handed it to my Matron of Honor, who was my mother, and beat feet it up the aisle as a newly minted wife. The year was 1992, well before Pinterest, The Knot, or even the internet, and the whole thing cost about $3,000. Oh, did I mention that I had my dress made and the altar was flanked of hay bales?   Things have definitely changed. With the invent of social media, the internet, Say Yes to the Dress, and over the top celebrity weddings (I’m looking at you Kim and Kanye), planning a wedding is fraught with all kinds of expectations. Sure, there are tools out there, but where does one start? Last Fall, Meaghan Foran of Alx&Co. and I came up with the answer.  Getting to I Do is a workshop for anyone planning their wedding. Whether it’s big or small you have to start somewhere, so we have gathered together some of the finest wedding professionals in the industry to give you the roadmap to planning your perfect wedding.
