Getting Your Feminine Products Just Got A Bit More Boutique: Miss Moxie's Moon Shop Opening This Month

I've known Ann for over a decade. She's a trauma nurse who previously opened Lotus Blooms on King Street before selling it to the current owners. So when Ann reached out a while back and wanted to meet for coffee, I knew she was cooking up another amazing business. Her new retail business is something that most menstruating humans have only dreamed of - an entire boutique of safe and helpful products with a knowledgeable staff. Imagine a world where we no longer have to get our monthly period products from a big box store with limited options or Amazon. Old Town now has it, and we think it may be the first of its kind! Miss Moxie's Moon Shop is opening this month at 102 North Fayette Street (my original shop location and the former location of Threadleaf). It is on the corner of King Street and North Fayette Street, next to Penny Post. The store offers everything from organic tampons and pads to period underwear, kegel exercisers, first bras, and female-focused CBD products. I am so excited to have a safe, friendly, and knowledgeable place to take my daughter when she gets her first period (they even have first-period kits!) And really, isn't it time that we destigmatize menstruation and menopause? I think so!

I think Ann describes her new boutique best, so I'll let her do it:

"We are on a mission to destigmatize and remove the taboo surrounding menstruation and menopause. We believe it is no longer acceptable for women and girls to feel shame, intimidation, and embarrassment when purchasing feminine hygiene products. We are dedicated to offering you an educational, fun, and personalized shopping experience. We want to raise awareness that period poverty exists in our society, and we are committed to donating to those in need.

Stop in our nurse-owned, one-of-a-kind, period-positive boutique for all your intimate health needs. We will provide you with great product choices and education. Not sure what to do with a menstrual cup? No problem! We have several to choose from, and you'll be all set when Aunt Flo pays you a visit! Prefer pads or tampons? We offer organic products that are good for you and for the environment. Menopause? If laughing or sneezing leaves you feeling that little trickle down your leg, we got you! We have a large selection of Kegel exercisers that will give your vagina a good workout. We also stock a wide variety of vulva creams, organic CBD products which you and your vagina will love, heat pads, chocolate, bath bombs, first bras for budding breasts, and a large selection of gift items. Our party room is available for you to celebrate your daughter's period with a First Moon Party, celebrate your hysterectomy, or just a period palooza party to celebrate being a woman!"

Be sure to follow her on Instagram for the most up-to-date info on their July 16 grand opening and their amazing products and education.

Danielle, owner of the fibre space shop, has been knitting since the age of six or so, when she completed her first project – a Cabbage Patch doll scarf. A Pittsburgh native with a degree in international development, she moved to the D.C. area to find a job and quickly established a career in non profit management and fundraising. For extra cash, she decided to turn her hobby into a job and taught knitting classes in the evening at area shops. With a heavy dose of sarcasm and a tough love style of teaching, Danielle quickly developed a following of students – busy D.C. professionals looking for a creative outlet. In October 2006, she struck out on her own with Knit-a-Gogo, Inc. – offering knitting classes and events all over the D.C. metro area.  Before she knew it, Knit-a-Gogo had grown out of control and Danielle moved to the next natural step – a full service yarn shop. In July 2009 fibre space was born and has been rockin’ ever since. When she isn’t behind the scenes with a mocha in hand, Danielle is hanging with her daughter or lobbying for small business needs at City Hall.
