4 Tips To Find the Perfect Hairstylist

Finding the perfect hairstylist can be harder than finding the perfect guy or girl. Whether you’re new to the area or just want to change things up, there are always options. So how do you know which one is the best fit for you? We’ve all ventured into uncharted hair territory only to walk out of the salon with an accidental bob, botched bangs, and possibly even some tears. Here are few simple rules I recommend before making a decision...

1. Ask around

One of the best ways to find a trusted hairstylist is word of mouth. If you spot a cut or hair color you like on a friend, acquaintance, or even a perfect stranger, ask them which salon they go to and who they see there. As a hairstylist, I love nothing more than a new client who sits in my chair and says they loved one of my client's hair. Knowing who referred you will help the stylist understand what kind of aesthetic you like and who to thank for the reference.

2. Check out the salon or book a mini service

If you are unsure if you want to make a commitment before having a stylist work on your hair then visit the salon or book a mini service. This is the safest way to get a feel for the salon and the stylist without making any major commitments. Any reputable salon will be glad to show you around, provide information on services, or even schedule a complimentary consultation with a stylist to talk about your hair.

3. Use social media

In this day and age, most salons and/or hairstylists will use some of the popular platforms to showcase their work. There’s no better research than seeing a stylist’s actual creations and photos of what they are able to do. This is also a great way to get inspiration for new look or hair color, as well!

4. Know your products

We all have a certain brand of products we love to use on our hair. If you love Aveda, René Furterer, Oribe, or any others, then it's a good idea to visit their websites. Most brands often have a salon locator that allows you to search your local neighborhood for salons that use their hair styling products and even hair coloring products. Top products can often lead to you top salons. And finally, finding a good hairstylist is somebody that takes the time to listen to what you want and who will be able to give you in-depth consultation. As a client, you should find a hairstylist that truly makes going to the salon a delightful experience!
