Is Your iPhone Aging You?

I remember a couple of years back when I was blown away by a study that showed how infrared rays (the heat-causing rays, also known as IR) were responsible for more skin damage than UVA and UVB rays.Apparently, IR rays are longer and therefore penetrate more deeply into the skin’s layers. So, according to that study…I could be completely covered, inside a screened in porch at the beach with no sun on my skin or reflected onto my skin and the heat from the IR rays could still be aging me. WHAT???To test this theory and their solution, Skinceuticals did a study on line cooks. Line cooks stand over hot stoves all day -- what better test of heat than that? First, they took subcutaneous photos of the skin on their arms. They put sunscreen on one arm and on the other arm they put their topical vitamin C serum followed by sunscreen. After six months’ time, additional photos were taken to see what, if any, damage had occurred to the skin. The results were fascinating. The arms with sunscreen alone suffered cellular damage; the arms with the vitamin C and sunscreen showed almost no additional cellular damage.I was already a devotee to my Skinceuticals vitamin C, but that sealed the deal: I use the Vitamin C serum and a broad-spectrum sunscreen every, single day. That means I’m good, right? Maybe not.The newest studies show that there is another light I need to be concerned with…blue light.According to these studies, digital rays, i.e., the strong blue light rays emitted by computers, mobile phones, and television screens, have unintended and often serious consequences to our skin's health.  Blue light leads to premature aging and induces hyperpigmentation. In response, Coola Organics has created Silk Drops. A daily “full-spectrum” sunscreen with an advanced organic formula that is light-as-air and yet protects against broad spectrum UVA/UVB, IR (Infrared), Blue and HEV (High Energy Visible) Light. It’s got you covered from beach to board meeting. A fast-absorbing, complex blend of plant stem cells and patented light-wave defense technology, it helps to prevent visible signs of aging from both indoor and outdoor daily aggressors. So, for those of you who think, “I don’t need to wear sunscreen today, I’m just going to be at work all day,” maybe that’s exactly why you need to wear sunscreen today.
