Join Us: Wine & Watercolor Fundraiser At Alx&Co.

Do you consider yourself an artist? Honestly, even I hesitate to use the word to describe myself, even though I genuinely believe that anyone can be an artist if they want to. If you're interested in stretching this often-neglected muscle, we have just the right event for you... and better still, it's for a great cause!

Join us on Tuesday, June 14 at Alx&Co. as we host a Wine and Watercolor Workshop with our friend Kelly Swain of KS Design. Kelly will be teaching a basics of watercolor workshop complete with step-by-step instruction to create your very own floral watercolor design. You'll leave with a work suitable for framing along with a new skill to fine-tune over the summer. We'll feature light wine from our lovely neighbor, Fontaine, and all proceeds from the event will be donated to Volunteer Alexandria, a favorite local non-profit that we love supporting. Better still, we're offering 10 percent off all purchases at Alx&Co. for the evening, with a matching donation pledged to Volunteer Alexandria for your purchase discount, plus a fabulous raffle with prizes from yours truly, Fontaine, and KS Designs.

Kelly moved to Washington, D.C. from Minnesota almost ten years ago, and while she works as a Project Manager in the tech industry during the day, she has always pursued her creative interests on the side by delving into acrylic painting and pastel drawing. She has settled into watercolor as a medium, being drawn to its versatility and unique challenges. Kelly notes, "I am a perfectionist by nature, but watercolor, I feel, gives me the ability to paint in a more abstract way and outside the lines!"

We are huge fans of Kelly's work here at Alx&Co. We use her for our own watercolor portraits of our bespoke designs, which now come complimentary with most bespoke creations. Fine jewelry watercolor designs are an ancient tradition that we're pleased to offer with our own heirloom-worthy creations, and we're so pleased to work with Kelly for this unique "extra" in our packages. We're so excited to see where her talent leads: she is exploring creating watercolor wallpaper designs and will be opening her own online shop in mid-June, featuring prints and originals for sale.

And, of course, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to benefit our friends at Volunteer Alexandria: all proceeds from the event will be donated to this amazing local powerhouse for volunteerism. We can't wait to see you there!

Creative Director & Co-Owner | Alexandria and Company

I came to join Alexandria & Company by way of love: my husband Tim has owned the shop for nearly ten years, and I started by helping him on Saturdays so that we could spend more time together. Eventually, I quit my other life in the legal field to become Alx&Co’s Creative Director and co-owner with Tim. Now, we run our small business together in Old Town and I haven't looked back.

Alexandria & Company is an Old Town-based workshop and design studio specializing in creating and restoring fine jewelry and silver hollowware. They are the in-the-know jewelers of Alexandria and have been serving clients out of their small workshop for decades. Tucked in their historic building on South Royal Street, the team at Alx&Co. brings a personalized, modern approach to their craft – this is not your average stodgy jeweler or antique shop. Visit them online to view their collection of handmade fine jewelry; or, if you’re feeling creative, make an appointment to talk about that custom design project you’ve been imagining.
