A Step Back in Time: 24 Hours of Charm, History and Rooftop Views in Bath

If you’re looking for a charming escape from London, Bath is the kind of place that feels pulled from the pages of a Jane Austen novel—or a scene straight out of Bridgerton. Just a quick train ride away, the entire town is a visual feast of Georgian architecture, inviting cobbled streets, and historic wonders that make it easy to slow down and take it all in.

We started with the free historical walking tour—an absolute must. It’s a great way to orient yourself while hearing fascinating stories about Bath’s past. You’ll pass major landmarks like Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths, the Royal Crescent, Guildhall Market, and more.

Pro tip: while the tour doesn’t take you inside the sites, it gives you all the context you need before heading in on your own.

The Roman Baths themselves are a standout. It’s a beautifully designed museum with immersive audio guides, thoughtful visuals, and a few surprises (just wait until you see the original steaming pools still in place). It's a perfect blend of ancient history and modern storytelling.

But the highlight of the entire trip? The tower tour of Bath Abbey. You’ll climb up into the bell room, peer behind the iconic clock face, and end with a rooftop view that’s nothing short of breathtaking. Plus, you get to ring the bells—need we say more?

To rest our feet (and soak in history), we headed to the Thermae Bath Spa, where you can bathe in the same natural thermal waters once enjoyed by the Romans. Don’t miss the rooftop pool. For something more intimate, the Cross Bath offers a quieter experience in a tucked-away historic setting.

Dinner was Sunday roast at Green Park Brasserie, a cozy spot with live music and hearty food. Another great dinner pick? Walcot House, for its lively ambiance and seasonal dishes. Before leaving, carve out time to explore the boutiques on Walcot Street and Argyle Street—you’ll find everything from handmade goods to stylish one-offs.

Bath is history and charm wrapped in one perfectly walkable package. Go for the architecture, stay for the spas and views, and leave feeling lighter than when you arrived.
