Kitchen Organizing The NEAT Way

One of our most popular spaces to organize (and one we frequently get asked for tips on) is the kitchen! We get it - it's the heart of the home, the hub zone for the family, and the absolute first place you have to have situated when you're moving!

So, here are our tips and tricks for creating and maintaining a NEAT Kitchen:

The first step is to toss/donate anything that's broken or that you simply don't use anymore (or have ever used) - just let it go to make space for things that you do use!

The second step is to put your items into categories and create zones. For example, put all your cooking and prep utensils together and then put them near your prep bowls/dishes. All those small appliances - they should go together. Do you have a dedicated pantry, or are you using cabinets in your kitchen? Regardless, put your food together and create categories within that - breakfast, snacks, meal prep, etc.

The third step is to determine your high traffic areas and put your most used items there. Plates and bowls should go near the dishwasher and near the table (or counter where you eat). If you have kids, put all their lunch and snack packing supplies in an area that's convenient for your mornings. Put your coffee supplies together and near the water source! You get the gist!

The fourth step is to implement products that will contain your items and help you maintain your system. Drawer dividers hold things in place. Anything small or loose should go in a basket. Do you want knives off your countertop - use an in-drawer knife dock... it's truly life-changing!

Finally, label everything! You'll need your family's help in maintaining the system, so don't be afraid to break out that P-touch machine and label the insides of drawers. Baskets and bins with labels are not only functional, but they can look so beautiful too!
