Makers Mile 2022: New Year, New Skill

It's back! After a one-year hiatus, we are bringing Makers Mile back to Old Town, bigger and better than ever. This weekend, February 26 to 27, twenty - yes, you heard me, 20! - businesses will be offering exciting workshops and fantastic make-and-take crafts. Sponsored by Old Town Business Association, this year's Makers Mile includes everything from cocktail and simple syrup classes to pom pom making and bullet journaling. Register now and reserve your limited-edition tote bag that serves as your ticket to all the fun!

Here is just a taste of some of the offerings from our Alexandria Stylebook contributors:

Boxwood: Calling all kids… come paint with us!!! Think of spring colors and May flowers as we're painting a beautiful take-home DIY home décor item using Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan®. Workshops will be offered on the hour, every hour, and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. This workshop is recommended for children seven and older.

fibre space: Learn to make cute colorful pom poms that you can use to adorn bags, hats, keychains, and more!

Mint Collective: Join us for fun beading with local jeweler Alli from The Neon Camel. Select from sparkles, metallics, and more! Keep a bracelet for yourself or make one for a friend! Alli will be in-store to help get your creative juices flowing!

Monday's Child: That's a wrap! Join us to learn how to wrap the perfect gift. Whether you are gifting for a new baby, best friend, or treating yourself to something special, we have easy tips to make the perfect present look pretty. We hope you'll wrap up Makers Mile with Monday's Child.

Penny Post: Stop by to learn everything you need to know about bullet journaling. Get organized with our tips, tricks, and templates, and take home a mini bullet journal of your own.

Red Barn Mercantile: Let's face it, no one is using dryer sheets anymore. Come by to make your very own wool dryer ball, a more sustainable and DIY-friendly alternative to dryer sheets for your laundry!

Virginia's Darling: "Quit wasting money on simple syrup" cocktail demonstration at Virginia's Darling (The wine bar inside Mae's Market).

Those all look so good. I mean, sign me up, right?! Tickets are only $30, so reserve your tote bag today, and we will see you this weekend!

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations. Inspired by the art of personal correspondence, the power of handwritten notes, and the smell of freshly printed stationery, we surround ourselves with quirky, hilarious, and classically beautiful things to make life a little brighter.
