Organizing Trends That Don't Work & Solutions We Recommend Instead

At NEAT Method, we’re experts in the field of organizing. Here are the trends that don’t work and what our team recommends instead.

TREND: Decanting EVERYTHING

Sure, it's totally Pinterest-worthy and looks great on Instagram, but taking every single food item out of its original packaging isn't the most practical way to organize your pantry. Nothing is ever a one-size-fits-all system.Instead, focus on your most used items and choose to decant those into containers that fit the space and fit the item. Typically, decanting frequently used baking ingredients, such as flour and sugar is a great way to start. We also like to take grains out of their original packaging and put them into canisters.

Pro-tip: add a QR code with your expiration date and pre-printed labels to give your pantry a professional look!

TREND: Making Everything Uniform

You don't need to use the same baskets and bins in every area of your home - on the other hand, we like to personalize each space for the system that will work best for that area. We also find it more aesthetically pleasing to vary the baskets, bins and canisters!

TREND: Custom Drawer Inserts

It's amazing to have everything customized, especially in your kitchen, but sometimes too much drawer customization doesn't leave room for any flexibility. When customizing, focus on one or two drawers - like one for your flatware and one for your primary cooking utensils. Otherwise, we recommend leaving everything as a blank slate! There are so many great products on the market that we can implement to create division and additional customization.
