Neighborhood Spotlight: Captain’s Row & Alexandria’s Waterfront

Captain’s Row: undoubtedly Alexandria’s most Instagrammable street. Not only is it just a skip away from the waterfront and favorite shops and restaurants on King Street, but it also captures Alexandria's charm in just one block. Cobblestone streets, gas lamps, and historic homes line this lower block of Prince Street.

The iconic 100 block of Prince Street is Alexandria’s oldest cobblestone street, named Captain’s Row after Captain John Harper, who built many of these homes in the late 1700s, along with colonial cartographer Col. George Gilpin in the 18th and 19th centuries. Historical accounts show that many of the original homes on the south side of the block were built by Gilpin, while Harper built the homes on the north side. Most of the brick homes on this block have been restored to look as they would have when they were first built before the Revolutionary War, allowing this block to keep its ties to the past while maintaining the needs for a home of the present.

This summer, we are pleased to offer 104 Prince Street to the market on historic Captain’s Row. What makes this house special is that it's a newer build on the row – the 1970s versus the 1780s! 104 Prince is an amazing opportunity on historical Captain’s Row. This location is the ultimate street in the heart of Old Town, only one block to the waterfront. Grassy parks, historic homes, trails along the Potomac River, and local shops make up this Old Town neighborhood.

This home features five levels with five bedrooms, four full baths, and one powder room with 3,183 total square feet, including an unfinished basement with lots of storage - a true rarity in the city! Find three wood-burning fireplaces in the living room, the family room/den, and the primary bedroom. Off the living room, enjoy the all-brick patio with access to an alley that leads to Prince Street. Details throughout include built-in bookshelves, dentil molding, a full-size refrigerator, a separate full-size freezer in the kitchen, a wet bar in the family room, and dual systems. The top floor offers rooftop access to enjoy local fireworks and views of the Potomac River and National Harbor.
