New in Town: Matt & Tony’s

All-day brunch concept? Incredible. Officially opened on March 16, Matt & Tony’s is Del Ray’s newest family-friendly, American-fare restaurant to find its home on the avenue. Located at 1501 Mount Vernon Avenue, this indoor and outdoor kitchen and bar offers a full menu of cocktails, mocktails, wines, and a full list of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options!

When I heard ‘all-day breakfast,’ I was sold. Then I opened the menu and saw Shrimp & Grits and knew it’d be my next breakfast destination! The menu consists of mouth-watering small plates, sandwiches, salads, plates of seafood, breakfast favorites including chicken and waffles, and several dessert choices. Matt & Tony’s drinks menu is about as long as their food menu, listing several brunch drinks, all-day cocktails, wines, beers, and non-alcoholic, spirit-free mocktails.

Matt Sloan, who has served as an Alexandria Restaurant Partners managing partner here in Alexandria, opened Matt & Tony’s to honor his great-grandfather - the Tony to his Matt. Anton “Tony” Schabas was an Austrian pastry chef who became a cook on a German cruise ship. After making it to New York City, Tony’s claim to fame was his Rye Bread, known to be loved by John F. Kennedy in the White House. Now, Matt has opened a restaurant with his great-grandfather in mind, sharing the joy of hospitality with our community. 

Located at 1501 Mount Vernon Ave, once home to community favorites Fireflies and Charlie’s on the Ave, Matt & Tony’s is open and ready for business. We are sure it will be a restaurant Alexandrians will love with their all-day menu, kitchen, and bar - find a reservation here!

Here’s what we are excited about:

  • Baked Mac & Cheese - Elbow macaroni, cheddar mornay, crispy jalapenos, parmesan panko crumbs

  • Scotch Eggs - Jammy eggs, chicken chorizo sausage, panko fried, chimichurri mayo

  • Salmon B.A.L.T. - Salmon cake, peppered bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, lemon aioli, on brioche

  • Shrimp & Grits - BBQ spiced jumbo shrimp, andouille sausage, shallots, white cheddar grit cakes

  • Sweet Potato Donut Holes (dessert) - Sweet potato-ricotta donuts, cinnamon sugar, salted caramel sauce

  • The Bacon Bloody Mary (brunch drinks) - Bacon-infused vodka, bloody mary mix, chipotle, lime, meat stick, bacon salt

Born, raised, and bred in Alexandria, VA, Britt Patterson is a true product of the great state of Virginia. Britt attended Waynewood Elementary (Class of ’96), Carl Sandburg Middle School (Class of ’98) , and West Potomac High School (Class of ’02), she then went on to attend Virginia Tech (go Hokies!) where she majored in Business Marketing and Minored in Real Estate. Britt “officially” joined the family business as a licensed Realtor in 2008 after two years of working the political fundraising field and prides herself on her Alexandria real estate knowledge, alongside her integrity, loyalty, and professionalism as an agent and Vice President for the family business.
