Outfit to Room, Fall Edition + Upholstery Sale Extended and Dash & Albert Sale on Now
Labor Day is over and summer has unofficially ended. We are all looking forward to changing leaves, hot cocoa, and college football. Fall is my absolute favorite season for all those reasons and more. So, with cozy sweaters and leather boots in mind, I asked the folks from The Hive and The Shoe Hive to give me an outfit I can make into a room. As always, they didn’t disappoint. I hope you love it as much as I do!
Russell by Isabel Marant, $465 | Asli in Camel by Isabel Marant, $740The Looker Crop by Mother in Here Kitty Kitty, $210 | AGL Tan Bootie, $455
Taking a cue from the colors in this Isabel Marant sweater and the cool temps of the season, I started with a gray velvet fabric that is heathered with the tiniest specs of golden brown. I chose the Luccia sofa because it is absolutely stunning in velvet (and it didn’t hurt that the picture had the fabric on it already and we have one in the store) and is so inviting as to be unreal.A counterpoint to all that luscious velvet is rustic, brown leather, similar to those amazing AGL booties. I chose the Tudor chair in leather for many reasons. The scale is equal to that of the sofa, the squared back is a balance to the curves of the sofa, it’s simply gorgeous in leather, and the nailheads speak to the très chic Isabel Marant handbag from The Shoe Hive. I want a pair of these opposite the sofa with this organic shape marble table between them to add a little French flair. With design you want each piece to relate to another piece – or two – in some form or fashion. That’s why I continued the heathered trend from the sofa fabric to the Numa rug by Dash & Albert; the organic stripe of clear resin through the wood coffee table compliments the organic nature of the marble side table, and the antiqued brass lamp speaks to the brass nailheads in the chairs. Topping it off is a splash of color in the two Luru Home pillows, and the most recent work, “Steam,” by Kristin Try – the grays and blues in the pillows tie in the sofa color and paintings beautifully and bring in more blue to speak to the blue jeans in the outfit and rust for the stripe in the sweater. All of this design is nicely tied up in a bow of neutrals in the same earthy tones of fall’s changing colors. When designing a room, it’s always helpful to start with one piece of inspiration – a fabric, a rug, art, or a season for examples – and then build around that. Oh, and as a side note, we are extending our semi-annual upholstery sale through September 16th and Dash & Albert rugs are 20 percent off through September 6th!
P.S., As you read this, I’m getting my September Reset on. It is such a thrill to get to work with the wonderful folks over at Fitness on the Run. I’m really hoping they can help me build muscle and improve my balance so I can go into my old age gracefully. And, if I can bring a little bit of knowledge home to help my kids reset, too, that’s icing on the cake! More to come Friday...
