Outfit to Room: Junior Edition

I needed a little break from the hustle and wanted to do a fun exercise. The outfit to room posts are the ones that are the most labor intensive, but also the most enjoyable. (This one is still my favorite, though I’m pretty partial to this one too.) To get a little respite and do something creative, I reached out to Maura of Monday’s Child to do a kid’s version. What’s more delightful than designing a sweet room for littles?  My best advice to you when designing a child’s room is to think long term and purchase items that will grow with your children. Actually, my very best advice is skip the toddler bed and invest in a bed that will fit them when they are 16. That way you only purchase a bed once. Buy what you can afford at the time in a classic style and you will be surprised at how long it lasts.  It could wind up being the bed you repurpose in a guest room once they are off to college! Each of these rooms are very versatile. To make them perfect for a toddler or young child, add themed sheets from someplace like Pottery Barn Kids (yes, I said it) and the fun illustrated art prints here. The car art is from Etsy and everything else can be found at Red Barn Mercantile or Penny Post. You don’t need to do much because the toys will be enough to scream that it’s a child’s room, trust me. Then, when they become a tween, switch out the sheets for plain ones and add framed posters of their favorite band, movie, video game, or whatever they are into. Finally, when they go off to college you will be left with a lovely start to an adult room.

These rooms were a joy to create. It allowed me a little walk down memory lane to a time when I was designing my own children’s rooms. I do want to be clear, the furniture I’ve selected here are for very privileged little people. You can absolutely take this and make budget choices by swapping out for something vintage or something Ikea. It’s completely up to you. This exercise is all for a little fantasy in a crazy time. It’s also to illustrate what Red Barn Mercantile can offer you in the way of home furnishings for littles and for adults. Like I stated above, everything but the series of car prints is available through us.If you need help, then we are at your service as are our design partners.
