Outfit to Room: Pink Puffy Pants Edition
A few weeks ago, I asked Elizabeth to send me an outfit because I was feeling like it was time to do an outfit to room post. She sent me a pair of Tibi pink puffy pants and asked me if it was too much. “Heck no, it’s not too much, let’s do this!” was my reaction. I love these pants and the sleek oversized blazer she paired with them. The sneakers make it fun and casual and the earrings are simple enough to let the other elements shine. So effortlessly cool!

I knew I wanted to go bold with the pink. It’s the star of the show so let’s run with it. I found the perfect shade of pink in this gorgeous Thibaut grasscloth wallpaper. It really makes a statement and I love the texture. That found we were off to the races. Next, I wanted a textile that was as bold and fashion-forward as this entire outfit. As soon as I saw this amazing linen fabric from Kate Loudon Shand, I was in love. For this room I would use it for the two head-of-table chairs and any window treatments. And when I say window treatments, I mean full-blown window panels that puddle on the ground as opposed to a roman shade. I love the slipcovered Parsons chair from Cisco Home for this project. It feels slouchy and oversized just like the blazer.

Now that those two elements were finished, I needed to find the right black elements. Because black is a neutral, I didn’t want to treat it as a color but as a basic natural element in the room. It shouldn’t feel forced, like we are adding black just to add black. The metal table and wood and rattan chairs make sense in a dining room. If I had added a black rug, then it would be too literal. That’s why I went with a grey tone with a small pattern on it. The rug doesn’t stand out, but it adds warmth and texture to an otherwise bold room.As to not feel deliberate and matchy/matchy I brought in a wood buffet with beautiful movement that plays nicely against the flat finish of the table and complements the natural rattan. Plus, I love to mix black and brown together. It’s so chic. To finish off the room I kept the lighting simple, spare, and sophisticated and added an abstract painting from Kristin Try to represent the avante garde nature of this outfit. If you ask me, this outfit and room are perfect for a flat right in the heart of Manhattan or Paris.This outfit screams for “go big or go home” and I think it’s been accomplished.
