Outfit to Room: Thanksgiving Edition
Halloween is over and we are in the throws of getting ready for Christmas. (Insert shameless plug for this Thursday’s Holiday Unveiling here). But what about Thanksgiving? Poor Thanksgiving often gets lost in the shuffle, doesn’t it? It’s not a holiday that you decorate for weeks ahead, there’s no elaborate preparation except one epic trip to the grocery store, and it often gets overshadowed by stories of Black Friday and ads for cars with big giant bows on them. I love this holiday and think it deserves a little love. This year, I didn’t want this uniquely American holiday to go by without a little recognition, so I asked Elizabeth to give me an outfit I could make into a dining room where we could celebrate the chicest of Thanksgivings. I hope you like it and have a very happy Thanksgiving!Elizabeth sent me this gorgeous Tibi set with shoes from Stuart Weitzman and accessories from Mignonne Gavigan and Lizzie Fortunato. I wanted to make an impact with the red, so I chose a statement rug from Dash and Albert. This jute rug is really something else. You have to see it in person to really get a sense of how wonderful it is. When picking paint colors, I like to search for a color that I love that can be found in the piece that informs the room. In this case, the rug is the starting point. It has the slightest touch of blue in it, so I wanted to pull that out. The paint color and the fabric for the chairs (which is Crypton, by the way) does that beautifully.The dining chairs from Cisco Brothers were the next thing I fell in love with. The angle reminds me of the asymmetrical skirt, and they are modern with a mid-century flare. Six of these around this simple black oak dining table work perfectly. I didn’t want a lot of detail in the table so that the chairs would be the star of the set. Though, the way the legs of the table are angled make it slightly more interesting than your usual Parson’s table.Above the table I would hang one of my favorite light fixtures, the Morris Lantern. I could go more sparkly – in fact, I found a pendant that looked just like these gorgeous Mignonne Gavigan earrings – but I felt like a Red Barn room needed something a little more understated. The Morris comes in various sizes. You could do two small ones above the table, but I prefer big scale pieces that pack a punch, so would go with one large lantern in the gilded iron with frosted glass to make a statement.Because this is a make-believe room, I decided it has enough space for a buffet. The Isaac buffet from Cisco Brothers is one of my all-time favorites. The metal, mesh, and glass combination adds a nice balance to all the wood. Flanking a classic gilded mirror are two sexy Kelly Wearstler lamps that provide a little edginess to the room.Finally, I would set the table with Handmade Studio’s Kinfolk dinnerware in gunmetal. Especially made for Kinfolk dinners, these plates are handmade in Nashville, Tennessee and can be special ordered through the store. And, because it’s a special occasion, you have to have one or two beautiful floral centerpieces. I found this little gem on Helen Olivia’s Instagram page. Add a few of these down the center of the table and viola, you have an amazing dining room ready for your next Thanksgiving feast!
