Drool-worthy Interiors: Follow These Designers and Pick Up Their New Books

Twice a year we get new book release catalogs. I love buying the books, so I look forward to getting these catalogs. The Fall and Winter releases did not disappoint this year. A plethora of my favorite interiors’ people have new books and now I have a whole shelf full of them. Here is a peek at what should be on your coffee table or bookshelves ASAP:

William Abranowicz, Country Life – A world renowned photographer, William Abranowicz, released his 8th book of photography this year. Country Life, with which he partnered with his son Zander Abranowicz, features magnificent homes in the Catskills and Hudson Valley. Each home is more drool-worthy than the last. My dreams of owning a country home in the Hudson Valley just became clearer. Follow him on Instagram and pick up his book here.

Jake Arnold, Redefining Comfort – Not only is Jake Arnold an extremely talented interior designer he is also the co-creator of The Expert. It gives me and you access to some of the top designers in the country. Including Jake Arnold himself. A self-taught designer with a natural eye for architecture and design, Arnold is known for impactful and livable style. Combining luxury and ease is no easy feat (pun intended!), but he does it masterfully.  Follow him on Instagram and pick up his book here.

Caitlin Flemming and Julie Goebel, Sense of Place – Caitlin Flemming is a San Francisco-based interior designer who believes in creating comfortable spaces that are curated through travel and treasured memories. Sustainability is a large part of their ethos so expect to find natural materials, a paired down color palette, and organic life featured in her work. In this book, she and her writing partner, Julie Goebel, feature some of the most talented designers in their own home. For example, you’ll find NOVA’s own Lauren Liess (who has her third book dropping in 2024!) in these pages. Follow Caitlin here and Julie here, then pick up their book here.

David Netto, David Netto – Not only is David Netto a gifted designer, he is a talented writer as well.  After dropping out of Harvard Architecture school, Netto turned to residential decoration.  As the son of the owner of Cowtan & Tout fabric house, design is in his blood. His style seamlessly blends together modernism and traditionalism with a heavy dose of each in every interior. I always marvel at someone who can do that so effortlessly.  Or really at all. It’s extremely hard to be that nimble. As a contributing columnist for T the New York Times magazine and The Wall Street Journal, Netto has written prolifically on architecture. You can follow him on Instagram then pick up his book here.

Heidi Caillier, Memories of Home – This book is painfully good. The strong sense of intimacy and feeling in each interior is so apparent. Heidi Caillier, a Seattle-based interior designer, is masterful at mixing patterns and juxtaposing the masculine and feminine. Warm and inviting are two very appropriate words for her work. In this book she shares 12 homes spanning coast to coast, that are simply cozy and incredible. A bonus is the photography of Haris Kenjar, another favorite to follow!  Follow Heidi on Instagram and pick up her book here.

The Brooklyn Home Company, The Brooklyn Home: Modern Havens in the City – The Brooklyn Home Company is a true family affair. Real Estate developer brother, interior designer sister, and her artist husband create beautiful passive homes in Brooklyn and beyond. Using art, design, and Passive House Principles this company is combining beauty and sustainability in a modern light filled and airy way. This isn’t your average sustainable home. The Brooklyn Home Company takes it up to 11. Follow them on Instagram then get the book here.

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations.
