Recreation Report: Alexandria, Craft Beer Destination

We already knew that people come from all over to enjoy Alexandria’s rich history, charming homes, and bustling shops and restaurants. But what you may not know is that Alexandria has become a burgeoning destination for craft beer drinkers! In a large part due to the phenomenal success of Port City Brewing Company, Alexandria’s craft beer scene has erupted over the last few months. We have welcomed two new breweries to our town, Aslin Beer Company and Lost Boy Cider!

Aslin Beer Co. has moved its headquarters from Herndon to a 25,000 SF space in Alexandria’s West End. The space at 847 S Pickett St includes a production facility, a 3,500 SF tasting room, and office space. Aslin Beer Co.’s Double Orange Starfish is the number one rated beer by Virginia Beer Advocates. They are also known for their funky can designs and unique beer names, like Johann And The Giant Beach. Aslin Beer Co. has completely transformed the warehouse into an arcade-themed beer hall with cool art and their own food truck. The official grand opening is later this month and locals are already buzzing with excitement!
Lost Boy Cider is Northern Virginia's first urban cidery. They create hand-pressed ciders with all-natural ingredients, including 100 percent Virginia-grown apples. Ciders are also soy- and gluten-free, making it a safe choice for everyone to enjoy. Lost Boy Cider opened its doors at 317 Hooffs Run Dr just last month and has already proved a great place to grab a bite and drink a cider. Their rotating food trucks and multiple ciders on tap mean there is always something new and exciting and try. The 6,000 SF warehouse in the Carlyle neighborhood includes a tasting room, event space, and a production facility.
In honor of these awesome new additions to our community, we pulled together a map of the best places in Alexandria to grab a craft beer and hang out! Anyone up for a beer crawl? Start your day at the producers, get a few drinks from the source! Aslin Beer Co., followed by Port City Brewing Company, and finally Lost Boy Cider. Learn about the people behind these local businesses, the beer making process, and why they chose Alexandria!Next up, food…and more beer:The Garden, a new eatery and beer garden in Del Ray, an extension of Charlie's On The Avenue at 1503 Mt. Vernon Ave. Enjoy Mexican fare from the same culinary team as the restaurant in a 960 SF outdoor space with murals and lawn games. Augie’s Mussel House is currently undergoing a makeover to include a first floor bar and outdoor patio. When it is complete, we know this will become a go-to place to enjoy the weather and a wide array of craft beers on draft and in cans. After a day of drinking, ending the night with pizza is a no-brainer. Lost Dog Café is known for its great food and extensive craft beer selection.
