Shop The Largest Selection Of Miss Babs Yarns This Weekend!

If you mention the name "Miss Babs" to a non-knitter, you'll get a confused look. But, if you utter that name to any yarn lover, you'll get a definite exclamation of excitement. This yarn is not only popular, it's hard to get - she only does a handful of events each year, and fibre space is one of the few retail shops where you can find her yarns. As a small woman-owned business, she's been thriving in this competitive industry since 2005.

Knitters and crocheters stand in line at wool festivals for over an hour just to get into her booth. In fact, many will arrive hours before the festival opens and line up at the gate so that they can run to her booth and be among the first to see her special show color and shop her amazing selection of colors. It is for this reason that we have been so lucky to host our own pop-up event with Miss Babs for over a decade. Our annual Miss Babs Pop Up brings visitors to Alexandria from near and far to shop this incredibly special hand-dyed yarn.

We're excited to welcome Babs and her team to fibre space for our annual pop-up event. This event is a chance to see and feel her yarns in person and shop a huge selection, including yarns that are not usually available at our shop. This event will take place in tents outside the store so that you can shop safely and comfortably while spending the day in Old Town (rather than at festival fairgrounds.)

So, what is so special about "hand-dyed" yarns? Hand-dyed yarns are dyed in small batches by humans - no machines involved! Solid skeins of yarn will have subtle color variations. Most hand dyers also have an incredible lineup of variegated yarns, which feature multiple colors on each skein of yarn. Miss Babs dyes a wide variety of yarn bases from lace to chunky in a stunning range of colorways - semi-solids, repeatable variegated colors, and one-of-a-kind colors, which she calls "wild irises."

Know a knitter, crocheter, or weaver? This is an amazing opportunity to get them an incredible gift! We will have a special show colorway available that is exclusive to fibre space. Brand-new designs will be on display, so you can find project inspiration and hands-on help picking yarn and color combinations.

So, who is Miss Babs? Babs got her nickname from her husband, a Southerner, who called her "Miss Babs." So, when she formed her own hand-dyed yarn company, it made sense to use the nickname for her company. Babs and the Miss Babs Team dye beautiful yarns in their studio in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. Her colors are inspired by nature. She loves seeing the colors that occur there and playing off them to create yarns that evoke the emotional impact of the natural world.
