Lighten Up: Time for a Spring Skincare Refresh

Now that the weather appears to be warming up for good, it’s time to start thinking about changing your skincare. The heavier creams, oils, and serums you needed in the dry, cold winter months may start to feel a bit heavy on the skin. The added humidity in the air will likely make you want to lighten up the formulas on many of your products.Think about moving from a heavy cream to a gel cream or a lotion. Thick, creamy cleansers can be tucked away for use once a week and replaced with a refreshing gel wash. Tissue masks can replace the thick, hydrating masks that felt so good in the middle of winter.

Additionally, it’s time to start thinking about sunscreen again. Even if you were diligent about using it all winter, you may need to up the SPF factor now that the sun will be out on a regular basis. Those of us using retinols and exfoliating products bringing forth newer skin need to be diligent about sun protection, as those items make our skin more photo-sensitive. If you are using lightening agents to fade dark spots you need to take extra precautions to protect your skin from the sun or the dark spots will come back even darker.Don’t forget to protect your lips and scalp. A lot of sunburns occur on the areas where we neglect to put sunscreen. Our lips are vulnerable, as well as the exposed areas of our scalp. There are many lip products with SPF, so be sure to pick one up. Part lines and thinning hair expose our scalp to the sun. A fine spritz of Coola’s Organic Scalp and Hair Mist SPF30 can make all the difference. Those of you who have experienced a sunburn on your scalp know that it isn’t something you ever want to have happen again. When you’re ready to lighten up your formulations, we’re here to help. We’ve been slathering and testing and trying all kinds of products so that we’ll know exactly where to direct you when it’s time.
