Superbowl Provisions

Football season is coming to an end. This weekend we will all huddle (pun intended) around the television to watch the ultimate gridiron event: The Super Bowl. If you’re gathering friends and family to watch the game, the commercials, or J. Lo’s halftime extravaganza, then we have a few things you will need to entertain your guests with style.Oklahoma doesn’t have a professional football team, so if you’re from Tulsa you either cheer for Dallas or Kansas City. Since Dallas didn’t come close and we have a Kansas City Chief’s fan in residence at Red Barn Mercantile and Penny Post, we are rooting for them. If you are too, then barbecue is your main dish. Duh. Kansas City is world famous for their mouth-watering barbecue so that’s a no brainer. Pick some up at Smoking Kow or at my favorite, Dixie Bones in Woodbridge. It’s a hike but well worth it. While you’re there, grab a chocolate pie for dessert. You won’t be sorry! Or, if you’re up for a little DIY, then grab Lillie’s Q sauce to finish off your smoked meats then pile it high on one of our beautiful platters or in a gorgeous bowl for serving. If you’re rooting for San Francisco, then how about some West Coast oysters or your favorite dessert from San Francisco’s Tartine Bakery. In 2006, the hometown heroes published their first soon-to-be-a-classic cookbook. This year they relaunched the classic with new recipes and updates to some old favorites. Try this yummy shortbread recipe for your Super Bowl party.  As for cocktails, bourbon goes with barbecue and gin goes with oysters. A good old-fashion Old Fashion using bourbon and Bittermilk’s No. 1 is a fan favorite for our Kansas City crowd and The Greyhound which mixes gin, Mother Shrub’s Grapefruit shrub, and club soda is a real 49ers crowd pleaser. Start the party off with a cheese and charcuterie board with delicious provisions from Cheesetique and your team’s cocktail, then sit back and enjoy the game!
