The Hopping History: Where Did the Easter Bunny Come From?

Spring is in the air, and that can only mean one thing: the Easter Bunny is hopping into town! But have you ever stopped to wonder where this fluffy, egg-delivering creature originated? It’s a tale as rich as a box of Madame Coco’s chocolate Bon Bons.

The story begins in pre-Christian pagan traditions. The hare, a symbol of fertility and new life, was associated with the spring goddess Eostre (from whom we get the word “Easter”). As Christianity spread, these pagan symbols were often absorbed and reinterpreted. By the 17th century, the “Osterhase” (Easter Hare) was making his appearance in German folklore, delivering eggs to well-behaved children. (You can use this point to get yours to behave! ;)

The tradition hopped across the Atlantic with German immigrants in the 18th century, and the Easter Bunny, as we know him, began to take shape. He wasn’t just delivering eggs anymore; he was bringing baskets filled with treats!

But why eggs? Eggs have been a symbol of rebirth and new beginnings for centuries and we ladies know all about that.

Decorating and gifting eggs was a common spring custom in many cultures. The Easter Bunny’s eggs, often brightly colored, represent the joy and vibrancy of the season.

Today, the Easter Bunny is a beloved figure, bringing joy to all of us! From egg hunts to chocolate bunnies, the tradition continues to evolve, creating sweet memories for families.

Speaking of sweet, if you're looking for the perfect gift to celebrate Easter (or simply indulge your chocolate cravings), look no further than the newly opened Parlour Lounge! By day, enjoy a warm, comforting coffee with Irena & Tierra while planning your egg hunt.
