The Risk Of Third Party Beauty Buys

In the world of online shopping, there’s no shortage of counterfeit beauty scandals. A quick search will lead you to some terrifying headlines:

“Fake cosmetics found to contain ‘toxic’ chemicals”

“Police find animal waste in counterfeit makeup”

“Using fake makeup glued my eyes together”

The list goes on and on! With more people shopping on third party seller websites such as Amazon and Ebay, it has become increasingly important to watch out for online scammers. If you’re not buying directly from the source or an authorized reseller, you’re at risk of receiving a counterfeit product.  

Recently, I was shopping for jeans through a third party “luxury” resell website that claims to authenticate their items. When the pair of jeans I ordered didn’t arrive, I was given a $25 site credit. With said credit burning a hole in my pocket, I went back to the site to find out they also sell luxury beauty! A body moisturizer I had been coveting was 50% off and I figured, they authenticate their items so that eliminates the risk of counterfeit, right?

But that’s not all there is to consider when buying beauty through a third party seller!

The body moisturizer arrived, and upon opening the box I discovered that it was covered in black mold! How long was that moisturizer sitting in the warehouse and what elements was it exposed? I was so disgusted.

Learn from me. I love a good deal as much as the next person but when it comes to cosmetics, it’s just not worth the risk!
