Hot Chicken and Cold Beer in Old Town

The fried chicken sandwich craze has been taking over the foodie scene for the past few months. Now we’re lucky to have our very own unique pop-up fried chicken restaurant, The Rub Chicken & Beer, right here in Old Town. You can guess from the name, it’s a casual and straight-forward dining experience with “hot chicken and cold beer.”This pop-up is brought to us by the same team that started Big Buns Damn Good Burger Co. in Ballston and Shirlington Village. At first, the team simply wondered if restaurant-goers would enjoy a chicken sandwich option added to the burger menu. It was soon a huge hit. So, they decided to take it a step further and literally spice up the chicken menu.  As you probably guessed, these are not your normal chicken sandwiches. They’re large (6oz breasts), placed on a local brioche buttery bun, and custom rubs and spices with a variety of heat. And don’t forget the toppings: bacon, fried eggs, pimento cheese, apple butter, and even pickle chips. Some of our favorites include the “Nashville Hot Chicken,” which is topped with hot sauce, mustard coleslaw, pickle chips, and comeback sauce. Have a sweet tooth? Grab a “Krispy Chicken Collab” with a custom doughnut bun.In the mood for something besides a sandwich and a beer? Other fried chicken options are tenders, breasts, legs, thighs, and wings. Side options include waffle fries with comeback sauce or cinnamon sugar ranch dipper, peño-cheddar hush puppies, and Nutella pudding. Beer is available on tap and in bottles and cans. While wine and cocktail options round out the drink menu.  The Rub Chicken & Beer is open on the first floor of 801 King Street, while Hen Quarter is on the second floor. Enjoy a fine-casual restaurant downstairs at The Rub and a full-service restaurant and brunch experience during the evenings and weekends upstairs.
