POV: Enjoy The Sunshine At Our Favorite Spots

Spring has arrived, and it's time to soak up the sunshine with good food, great company, and refreshing drinks. As locals of Alexandria, we know that finding the perfect spot to meet up with friends or family can be a daunting task, especially if you’re the one in charge of picking! With countless options available, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But fret not! We've got you covered with our top picks for the perfect springtime hangouts in Alexandria. Do any of these situations feel familiar?

POV: A friend who is in town for business just texted you last minute that they’d love to meet up for a drink & a bite tonight. It’s too late to get a reservation and it’s a beautiful day. Where do you go?

Is it too obvious to say Barca? Even on a busy day, it’s a good destination. I like to walk from King Street to show visitors the “main street” of Old Town and point out any favorite places. This is a great start because you can walk by the Waterfront Park art installation, see some street musicians, and walk along the waterfront path while sharing about your favorite little gems in town. If you aren’t able to get a table at Barca, sitting up at the bar is a great option. Usually, walk-ups can find a spot at the high-top tables or bar for small plates and cocktails. If it’s too busy on the pier, try their wine bar located under Robinson Landing. You’re also near Hummingbird, Ada’s on the River, Chadwicks, and close to King Street for more options.

POV: You want to avoid the King Street tourist crowds but still want to experience the waterfront. Oh and you’re in the mood for a fun drink…possibly one that has a fun umbrella. Where do you go?

Waterviews without all the hubbub? Make your way up to Old Town North and try Cafe 44, one of my favorite places to recommend. For the views alone, Cafe 44 is a unique dining experience. It’s away from the standard King Street restaurant recommendations to change up the scenery a bit and give guests a feeling like they’ve also found a secret spot. Be aware, the restaurant is on top of an office building so at first look, you’ll think you’re at the wrong place. Don’t worry, just follow the garden-esque signs and the elevator will drop you off at Cafe 44’s tropical paradise. Still, wanting to enjoy a waterfront walk after dinner? The same paths that are along the water down near King Street are also up along the water in Old Town North!

POV: You want a casual place to go that’s dog-friendly with easy parking. Your friends plan to filter in and out so your group will want to stay for a while and sit outside. Where do you go?

When looking for a gathering hub to meet with a group, I recommend Lost Boy Cider. It offers a great place to go if you hope to stay for a little while and want some space to stretch out or sit outside with your pup. Their parking lot patio has picnic tables that are perfect to gather around and play a card game or Jenga with friends. Weekends often have food trucks! If you’re not a fan of hard cider, I recommend trying their “non-alcoholic” option called the ‘Comeback Kid Just Apples’ aka their fresh apple cider juice! It’s delicious and refreshing and at least worth a taste test.

POV: You’re feeling romantic, love to people-watch, and want some bubbles to fuel your shopping while you spend the day popping into Old Town consignment and your favorite Alexandria Stylebook retailers. Where do you go?

Let’s head over to the 100 block of South Royal Street. After you finish up shopping in Boxwood and popping into the newest shop at the Seedling Collective, you have deserved a rest and a glass of bubbly at Brut or Fontaine (conveniently located across from each other, both with outdoor dining options)! Fontaine is known for their crepes and is “where the locals eat,” but their outdoor seating is a must on a warm sunny day. Brut also offers limited outdoor seating but has over 200 wines to choose from! Brut is open later in the day and evening so it’s a great option to end your day once the shops begin to close.

So go out, explore, and take in the sights and sounds of this beautiful city. We hope our recommendations help you make the most of this wonderful season and create memories that will last a lifetime. Enjoy!
