Traditional Craft Meets Modern Design at The Seedling Collective

There is something so charming about taking an old tradition and giving it a new expression. We see this trend growing everywhere, from culinary art to music, fashion trends to lifestyles. Fast and cheap are finally being replaced by timeless and deep-rooted. Our early summer pop up, Seyyah and Buldano, are true champions of this movement. Both shops are honoring their Turkish cultural heritage and are applying centuries-old craftsmanship to create new products fitting for a modern lifestyle.

Buldano is a hand-woven textiles designer brand that focuses on producing high-quality and selective environmentally friendly textiles. Buldano's signature item is peshtemal (or pestemal) - a unique, multipurpose towel with over 600 years of history coming from Anatolia. Turkish towels were invented in the 17th century in Bursa, Turkey, and have been used in Turkish bathhouses for centuries. Known to be super absorbent compared to traditional towels, their tightly woven cotton is typically styled in wide and narrow stripes. Buldano's peshtemals are produced in the same, centuries-old manner. In addition to beautiful towels, Buldano offers stylish beach covers, bathrobes for the entire family, and throw blankets for your home.

Shop Seyyah is a true love story of family and travel. The jewelry brand was started by Ezgi Kaya, principal designer and owner, and her mother, Neslihan. Traveling the world together, they always admired the unique mix of color and texture each city offers. Their designs are all about celebrating this harmony of color and texture. What makes Seyyah jewelry unique is the use of different techniques and that each piece is 100 percent handmade by a woman artisan. The designs feature a crochet base that is durable and lightweight and finished by adding beads to create a unique design. The result is an easy-to-wear, colorful, textured piece of jewelry that you can wear anywhere and for any occasion. Believe me when I say that compliments are guaranteed. As Ezgi continues to design and make the collection pieces in her studio in Alexandria, Neslihan continues to live in Turkey and run their small studio there. As a women-owned business, their mission is to provide opportunities to other women in their community.

Buldano and Seyyah are popping up at The Seedling Collective for two months, from April 30th through June 27th. Follow @buldano and @shopseyyah on Instagram for event details and special announcements.
