Welcome Fall!

As the weather starts to turn, you may find yourself breaking out your cooler weather sweaters and autumn color tones. Maybe your morning walks are a bit brisk, and your regular coffee order turns into something with cinnamon or pumpkin spice. However you see fall make it’s welcomed entrance into 2020, we’ll celebrate the physical and metaphorical changes it brings. The rustle of the leaves beneath our feet, the orange and red tones brought to life by trees lining the GW Parkway, and the familiar excitement knowing the holiday season is right around the corner are all changes we are welcoming with open arms. Alexandria looks especially good in the fall season... something about those cobblestone streets, ghost tours, and autumnal wreaths on our doors suit our town beautifully.Fall changes are sometimes just what we need. Family traditions of carving pumpkins together, reuniting with loved ones over seasonal holidays, and getting back into the routine of going back-to-school (however it’s approached this year) all add to the changes of fall that we miss in the spring and summer months.  This year has brought about so many changes to our routines, our families, our businesses, and our community. In a town where celebration is our way of life, Alexandria has adapted our approach to celebration, respecting the challenges of our neighbors and friends while hoping for the best and celebrating even the smallest wins together. Moving into fall, I’m confident our community will embrace change head-on and, of course, appreciate our routine fall favorites as they come. So, what changes am I looking forward to this fall? Well, it may be a simple change, but I’m looking forward to everyone’s doorsteps transforming into a fall welcome! Pumpkins on the porches, orange and maroon mums in bloom, farmer plaid, and checkered ribbons and fabrics all make for beautiful fall decor. Of course, as a Virginia Tech alum, burnt orange and maroon hold a special place in my heart!  Nall’s Produce at 7301 Beulah Street is a favorite stop of my family and is a staple in the Alexandria area! Not only do they have pumpkins, but you can find mums at the market, and you can create the perfect fall photo-op on the Pumpkin Hill play yard’s crawling tubes, pumpkins, and hay. After many changes brought about this spring and summer, I look forward to my favorite familiar feelings returning this fall. What are you most looking forward to?
